PEOPLE
Some of Wild Clouds clothing is made in South London, just a 10 minute cycle ride away from their founder Franny, making regular visits very easy. All the incredibly skilled workers at the factory are paid the London living wage as a minimum. By making their clothes in England, they support local manufacturers and minimise their carbon footprint. Like many businesses, however, they been grappling with rising costs, making it challenging to keep their prices competitive without compromising on quality. While they remain committed to UK production, they have also sought an overseas partner that shares their values of transparency and sustainability, without the high London price tags. Fortunately, they've found a fantastic partner, a socially and environmentally responsible small business in India, who align with their strict social responsibility standards.
The factory where their signature fabric is made (prior to manufacture) adheres to environmental policies, employee health and safety policies and ensures people always come first. They also use professional consultancy to advise and ensure continuous improvement for their workforce. All materials and process inputs and outputs are safe for human health and the local area at all stages of product life.
Wild Clouds care about everyone and everything affected by their supply chain and have done plenty of research to find suppliers with ethical and sustainable practices. They also know they are not perfect and always want to do even better, so continue to research the best sustainable fabrics and materials.
They operate in a fair and green way and they think all other companies should do this too. They seek to contribute to communities, workers and the environment, not take from them. They are a part of the Better Business Coalition,- the Better Business Act which seeks to change the law so that it is no longer an option for business to pursue profit at the expense of workers, communities and the environment.
Wild Clouds has also been an independent, female-owned business since its inception in 2021.
PLANET
Wild Clouds believe that sustainability shouldn’t be a luxury. They don’t believe in huge markups, and strive to keep their clothing as affordable as possible.
One of Wild Clouds main long-term goals is to become a circular business. Currently, they demonstrate this through avoiding waste and by making long-lived products (with robust materials and simple, timeless designs).
Every part of their clothes, from the buttons down to the elastics, are 100% natural, sustainable and compostable. They are also actively working towards using fewer virgin materials. A focus on small batch, responsible production means they generate little fabric waste. The waste that is leftover, is made into accessories. Their clothing contains no plastic. Their packaging, including what comes from their UK manufacturer to them directly is plastic free.
In the factory where their fabric is made, electricity and power are provided by renewable wind power. Throughout the entire production process, production points are monitored in order to reduce waste and promote resource recycling and reuse and their fabric is dyed with low impact azo-free dyes.
Their repair service keeps their clothes in use for as long as possible, and once they do reach the end of their long lives, they’re fully compostable.
Whilst their mission is always to reduce carbon emissions at their source, as part of their journey to become carbon neutral Wild Clouds have also partnered with One Tribe. For every purchase you make, they protect 100 square meters of rainforest.
